Estimated 2011 District wise populations in 2024 – alternate methods

This takes into account population ageing as well. Assumption: the proportional age-sex contribution of each district in 2011 to India is preserved in 2024.

District Wise Estimates

  1. Taken Indian census single age sex district level 2011 population data from RGI. Created groups by ageGroups and sex
  2. Estimated Contribution to indian 2011 population by each district – By age groups and sex
  3. Took 2024 Indian single age male female population from Population Prospects
    https://population.un.org/dataportal/data/indicators/47/locations/356/start/2024/end/2024/table/pivotbyage?df=fa176aa1-9640-412b-b4ac-5c8ffbea
    > e127. Created groups by ageGroups and sex
  4. Extrapolated district age-sex population to 2024 by multiplying proportion from step 2 to the 2024 total Indian population. This also accounts for ageing of Indian population [factored in UNPP projections] at a national level.
  5. Allocated two 2011 districts to Ladakh and ten 2011 distrcits to Telangana
  6. Added male-female wise state level urbanization estimates from MOHFW to 2024 population. Urban male and female percentages from India Population Projections by Govt of India, https://nhm.gov.in/New_Updates_2018/Report_Population_Projection_2019.pdf, Pages 43, Table 8 and
